The history of our school

1st period: 1927-1945

The idea of establishing the school came up already before World War I. becasuse the youth could only have further education in Eger, Gyöngyös, Budapest and Aszód.

The newspapers also dealt with the question. However the Minister of Education was against the proposal because they were afraid of increasing the number of educated people who couldnt find proper workplaces.

The Minister gave permission to establish the school provided the town of Hatvan supports it. First the school was called Hatvani Magyar Királyi Állami Reáliskola (Hungarian Royal State Science Grammar School of Hatvan) and 8 years later Hatvani Magyar Királyi Állami Klebelsberg Kunó Gimnázium (Hungarian Royal State Klebelsberg Kunó Grammar School of Hatvan).

The school needed good headmasters and staff.

2nd period1945 -

1946 is the year when significant changes occured. Primary schools took over the first two years. The first students hostel opened and girls studied together with boys. In Selyp a branch school was started for workers to provide their teaching. In 1948 the school got a new name: Bajza József.

In the ’50s besides the regular teaching, correspondence and evening classes were started. In the ’60s policy of education declared the objective of making secondary education general which resulted in an increase in the number of students. In 1967 another grammar school and a vocational training school opened in Hatvan.

In 1969 the first secondary medical training began with two classes in each year. The evening classes were stopped this year.

The building was modernized, in 1975 a new student hostel and a sports ground were built.

During the time when Mrs Éva Farkas was the headmistress the elective system with optional subjects was organized and a computer room was developed.

In 1992 a new, six-year class system was started. The correspondence courses were stopped and only one medical class was started each year. Instead of this course there is another one at a higher level for those who take the final exams.

The academic year of 1944-45 was the most critical in the history of the school. In 1944 German soldiers were placed into the building. After their leaving, a Soviet military hospital was placed there. Education was at private homes.
